Risky Business: Art & Tattoos

By Kate Hicke @girlpollen · On March 26, 2014

Go beyond typical sailor style with these conceptual tattoos by Amanda Wachob

Living in a heavily-tattooed city like Toronto means there’s bound to be some overlap in tattoo styles and trends. Anchors, eagles, daggers, sultry pin-ups–the tried and true motifs of old school tattooing are here to stay. Stepping outside the bounds of traditional tattooing is often risky business, and some things just aren’t meant to be tattooed–but, when done right, the combining of art, design and tattooing can really make for a striking piece. Here are our favourite tattooers who we think have nearly perfected that fine balance. Many of them are based abroad, but we’re willing to travel–they’re just that good.
